The program initiated by Government of Jammu & Kashmir with support from CHINAR International & Avanti is aimed at helping students from Jammu & Kashmir enter into top-engineering and medical colleges in India by providing them access to quality education free of cost. 50 students each for engineering and medical entrance exams (IIT-JEE/NEET and the likes) are selected through an entrance test for each of the 11 centers spread across 10 districts of Kashmir. These students are then coached in an intensive crash course from December to April/May by subject experts chosen from the existing set of government teachers in the state.
Teacher Training and Program Management
Selected teachers are trained by experts in running classroom using Avanti’s unique pedagogy. An intensive 2-day training is followed with refresher trainings conducted on an ongoing basis. The training sessions cover the following aspects:
- Academic Preparation for Competitive Class Sessions: Teachers are exposed to different resources they should access to upgrade themselves in different topics of class 11 and 12 JEE/NEET syllabus
- Using Avanti Classroom and Assessment Tools: Teachers are trained on using test diagnostic reports to create a study plan for their class, use Avanti’s portal to record student engagement etc.
- Micro Teaching Session: Teachers go through peer-to-peer microteaching sessions aimed at improving their engagement levels in a classroom through a continuous feedback process.
Program managers from Avanti and CHINAR International conduct center visits to support teachers in conducting classes and monitor program implementation. Further, program manager coordinates with teachers on an ongoing basis either remotely or in person to ensure syllabus coverage, test administration etc.
Curriculum Support and Assessments
Teachers are provided with digital content which includes class-wise lesson-plans, video content (with recorded video lectures) through a login to an online portal. Students are provided with a series of workbooks (printed by DSEK) designed for practice in class and at home, focused on special entrance exam preparation.
